Re: 3.8s auto or manual

My 1965 car has a DG250. It is certainly a charmingly old-fashioned thing. But I like it and it suits the way I like to potter about. It does leak and I'm sure it always will. But that leakage has probably kept the underside of the car free of rust and explains why it's still on the road. I've never...

Re: My Dad Tom Hoffman

Sorry to be so late replying and I am truly sorry for your loss.

Tom did such a lot for this community and was always unfailingly charming and polite.

My sincere condolences to you and your family.

Re: Brake. Pedal adjustment

At about the same time as your original post, I came across the Pedal Lowering Kit SBS9149 at SNGB completely by chance and I can confirm that it does indeed lower the pedal to an acceptable height. I'd been driving around for 10 years wondering why it was so high! I was able to fit it without distu...

Re: One-family-owned from new 3.8S

Greetings, everyone. Sorry for the lack of posts lately. Life is complicated. Still, I did get to use my S-type for my friends' wedding in Oakham a few weeks back. It seemed to go down well and it behaved faultlessly, which is more than can be said for the weather, which kept us guessing right up to...

Re: Oil Pressure sender.

They are ludicrously unreliable. I must be on about my fourth in 10 years. One I fitted didn't even work properly from the outset. Another one leaked. And, like you say, Rob, this is not a cheap part to buy.

Re: Marles varamatic steering box

Yes, my own front spring journey has been a bit of a nightmare, which started when I assumed the original springs would need replacing after 50 years. Not so! But I only discovered that after fitting new replacements which gave a ride height that was too low. Anyway, long story short, I too ended up...

Re: PAS reservoir o-rings

Incidentally, just in case someone stumbles across this thread looking for items 3 and 4 on the Plate 69 PAS Reservoir Diagram from the Parts Manual, which are shown in the parts manual as: 7753 Gasket, on Cover Bolt (HE.1324) 7751 Gasket, under Cover (HE.1306) Whilst they are not available from Jag...

Re: Tow truck options

Just one point about putting S-types on tow trucks...the rear wheels are well inset and so you need to make sure the web straps used to hold the car down are not rubbing on the bodywork fore and aft of the rear wheels. See on John's pic how the straps at the rear overlap the bodywork. Hopefully they...

Re: dg250 front seal

Thanks for that very useful information, Jerry, and well done on your achievement. Like you, I try to stay as far away from transmissions as I can, esp the DG250!
