Re: Refitting the chrome
I have a decentld 3.8s badge. What are the measurements you need between the pins and I will check the one I have for you

Re: Refitting the chrome
Hi,
Thanks for your offer Rob, I will keep that in mind and be back to you if need be, however for the time being I do have a good one which I might chrome. I had bought one but it did not fit an broke. I do not intend to modify the holes. The pins should be 50mm apart. The one bough was nearly 52mm.

Re: Refitting the chrome
I had the same problem with the chrome spears on the C-pillars (BD25577/8). One was fine (RH), the other (LH) had the pins about 2mm too close together.

In this thread we were talking about door handle gaskets. Not a Jaguar part as far as we can tell but here is a company selling them on E Bay.

Re: Refitting the chrome
Glyn.....dumb question. Do you put the friction bushes on the badging/spears and then mount in place or put the bushes in the holes and then fit the badging/spears?
Back on the forum....puppies all sold and gone.

Re: Refitting the chrome
Joe Glyn might have the correct answer but from memory what I did was half mount the spikes in to the friction bush then half push the bushes in to the holes, then push both in together. This way both sides have started before the friction bush expands so much you cannot get the end into the hole or the other way that the hole in the friction bush is reduced so much by pushing it into the bodywork first that you cannot get the spikes in the holes.
I do hope this comes over correctly. I little WD40 helps to lubricate both sides when you push them together.

Re: Refitting the chrome
We mounted friction bushes in the body first & then inserted spears & badgework with soap on pins.
I'm sure either method will work & it depends on how much paint is in the holes. If you have to clear the holes apply Tectyl.

Re: Refitting the chrome
Manual says that BD 9851 is used for the door chrome and the center bonnet chrome. How do you use this clip? With a rivet? Manual does not say a rivet must be used. SNG shows BD9851 with just a clip. XK Unlimited showes bd9851 with a rivet and a clip. If you use the rivet for this clip, how do you attach the clip to the rivet? How to you attach the chrome to the clip?
While you are at it.....how do you attach BD28982? Manual says to use DAZ 404/8c screw.
Photos attached.

Re: Refitting the chrome
BD 9851 is riveted to the doors or bonnet. One side is slightly sloped the other side is sharp. You line all the clips up so the slope side is say down. The chrome bead then hangs over the sharp edge and you push fit the other side of the chrome bead over the sloped edge where it clicks into place.
Again hope this makes sense.
Not sure about the plastic clips you have shown as I do not know what the are attaching.
