Interior Wood Trim Removal

Post by Markunderwood »

Hello
Ok what is the trick to remove the wood trim piece on the pillar between the front and rear doors? This is the piece directly below the interior side light. I don't see any obvious wood screws to remove on the inside of the car. Thanks in advance for the help.

One more thing, I have been quoted $10K to have the entire wood set (31 pieces) re veneered with walnut burl from Madera Concepts. This sounds steep, but maybe this is the going rate. Any other recommendations for companies providing this service?

Start with the lower parts, the top part will slide down.

Is you veneer really that bad it has to be replaced? Normally a removal of the old laquer (I used paint remover) and respray will be enough.

$10 grand sounds steep, very steep.

Get an estimate from Saul Chaplin at British Auto Wood in Orlando Florida begore you dive.

Thanks for the info, you guys always come through. Yes the veneer is gone on most pieces and the remaining veneer is lifting off and cracked. I will check into British auto woods to get a comparison. Thanks again.

Mark,

I do have a parts car with most of the wood still in place. The finish is, of course, all shot but but most of the wood is in good condition. I'll take a look at it tomorrow to verify that. I'll get back to you.

Don't know if this works for US residents but there are a couple of guys in the UK who will refurb or supply an exchange set for around £800. I decided to amuse myself by going to night school to learn furniture restoration. Interestingly I found that a heat gun gently applied made removal of the old lacquer fairly easy when paint stripper wouldn't budge it.

Just saw this post....sorry for being so late with a response. I had all my wood completely redone last year by Saul at BritishAutowood. I paid $4,500. He does a great job and I chose him over everybody else.
Good luck

Saul is not cheap but his work is world-class. I know him and have been to his modest shop. He is from Wales. Owns a 340 and a 420.
