ignition coil/ neg/pos conversion
WHEN CARRYING OUT A EARTHING CONVERION, AS A PART OF THIS THE IGNITION COIL WIRES ARE REVERSED, THE COIL MARKED CB- TO DISSTRIBUTER AND IGN TO THE IGNITION SWITCH . AFETR REVERSING, THE IGN IS TO THE DISTRIBUTOR AND CB TO THE IGNITION SWITCH, SIMPLE ENOUGH, BUT IF A COIL IS REPLACED AT A LATER DATE WOULD THE WIRING STILL BE THE SAME .

Re: ignition coil/ neg/pos conversion
If you replace with a newer coil then the markings will be - (neg) and + (pos), on a negative ground car the -(neg) will go to the distributor.

Re: ignition coil/ neg/pos conversion
Thanks for the reply Nigel, I never gave it much thought before, does that mean that the positive and negative coils are different ?.

Re: ignition coil/ neg/pos conversion
I'm not sure on that but any coil you get now days have pos & neg markings. How old is the coil on your car?
I changed my car over back in the 1970's when I fitted an alternator and an 8 track stereo.

Re: ignition coil/ neg/pos conversion
My car also has been converted and has electronic ignition, the question was due to me reading an article about conversions and I then wondered if the existing coil had to be reversed did that mean any future coil needed to be fitted the same as the original.

Re: ignition coil/ neg/pos conversion
I would think any future replacement coil would be fitted the same as the one that came off, inline with the instructions that came with the electronic ignition if you have them.
