Demister and heater blower motor.

Post by cass3958 »

Yesterday I did another trip in the rain and the inside of the car really misted up. Even with the quarter lights at the front open and the fan on full the front screen was barely staying free of condensation. Whilst moving it was bearable but when stopped in traffic I may as well have had windscreen wipers fitted to the inside of the screen.
I know my fan is working because it makes a horrible noise like the bearing has gone but the amount of air coming through the dash vent on to the screen is pitiful. Does anyone know if there is an upgraded fan on the market that fits the original Jaguar heater under the bonnet please?

Yes, there is. Claytons do an upgraded heater box with upgraded fan and matrix: http://claytonclassics.co.uk/parts-upgr ... ler-v8-250. Looks like you can buy the fan separately from Holdens: https://www.holden.co.uk/displayproduct ... de=080.546. Claytons might sell it cheaper.

I had the whole box upgraded, but I rarely take the car out in the rain at 8C, so I don't know whether it would solve your misting problem. It keeps the screen clear in the rain at summer temperatures.

I should have said that if you buy a new motor, you also need a new mounting plate and the fan itself. As the S-type heater box is slightly different from the Mk2 one, it might be worth talking to Claytons direct.

Thanks for the info. I was just reading another post on Jaglovers forum where someone said the S Type motor was unique to the model due to the way the fan was attached. They suggested an XJ6 fan motor but you had to drill a couple of mounting holes as the original holes do not match up. They also said the noise was normal and if it did not make a noise it was not working. I think I will strip mine out and give it a service first.

rebuild the fan.

any motor rebuilder can do it.

go to youtube.com and search "DC motor restoration".

finding the green resistor is another story.

Rob. Also make sure that the convoluted pipe that feeds the screen vents has not fallen off or fallen apart. Same for rubber elbows.
