Interior roof lining
Interior roof lining
Just noticed that the wool cloth has come away from the backing board and sagging. Is it possible to repair this in situ. I dont relish the idea of taking the front screen out to remove the board. Any help appreciated

Re: Interior roof lining
No easy way I am afraid. You could get some spray adhesive cut a small hole in the cloth and spray the adhesive under the cloth. The problem you have here though is not the adhesive holding the cloth in place giving way but the foam backing in the cloth deteriorating. Once the foam backing on the wool cloth starts to go brittle and turns to powder there is not a lot that can be done other than replace the cloth material and backing foam.
The front screen is easier to take out than the rear just because of the way the chrome is fitted. Worst job during me rebuild was fitting the rear screen chrome. The head board is too large to come out of the doors even if the doors are removed so the screen has to come out. Be grateful you have a later model S Type with the head board as the early S Type had the cloth stuck to the roof itself and was a four man job to fit.

Re: Interior roof lining
The rear window surround can be removed without taking out the screen as it's clipped in using the same clips as used on the door cards. I had to completely remake mine as water had leaked passed the screen seal and rotted the trim out. I used what was left as a template out and remade it out of hardboard and recovered it with the correct foam and wool headlining, not a difficult job. It's started to warp it bit now as I did it twenty five years ago and will need redoing in the near future. I have the original headlining that is glued to the roof and is still factory original.
