Fuel tank usage

While using fuel from the RH tank with LH Pump OFF fuel was drawn from the LH tank to the extent that when the RH tank was empty the LH tank was three-quarters full. The journey started with both tanks full. Is this normal? What has 'failed' if it is not normal?

Hi Geoff welcome to the forum. I think the problem is the left hand fuel pump, it sounds like the valves are letting fuel through. You can get parts or a replacement pump from Burlen Fuel Services.

I have not come across this problem yet as I am only running one fuel tank as my right hand tank produced a hole and has been out of commission for a year. I have a new tank but have not got around to fitting it yet.
I take it from your name you are in Cornwall but whereabouts are you as I am only over the border in Devon. Can you update your profile with your location please.

keep the pumps exercised by switching tanks every 20 miles.

this also keeps the car "balanced" as to weight on either side.

think of your twin tank Jaguar as a small airplane, there is fuel on both wing tanks and the pilot continually monitors fuel comsumption on each wing to keep the aircraft balanced and level.

same principle wirh the Jag. This also keeps the pumps charged and the fuel system pressurized.
