Four S Types at a wedding.

Post by cass3958 »

So this has been two years in the planning due to covid but on Saturday I finally achieved four S Type Jaguars at the same wedding. I have done three before and next week I have another three S Type wedding but this is the first time with four. Friday the weather was sunshine. Sunday sunshine and showers. Saturday, the day of the wedding, Biblical rain, roads flooded, not nice and such a shame for the Bride and Groom.

Driving S Type Jaguars in the rain is not good as the demister system is none existent and the windscreen wipers a kin to wiping a wet rag across the glass.

I was driving the Gold coloured S Type (borrowed from a friend for the day) which had no PAS and no visibility trying to turn it around in a really tight entrance to the church St Petrox in Dartmouth. It was either a five point turn or reverse 400 yards up a narrow lane to turn around and reverse back again to the church.

These were the best photos I could get due to the rain. The gold S type is a 3.4 Manual and it was the first time I have driven a manual Jaguar since I was 10. I was surprised actually how light the clutch was but did find doing hill starts difficult because of the position of the handbrake. My cream S Type (driven by a friend on the day) is a 3.4 Auto and with that on a hill you just left foot brake as you applied power to pull away. The other two more white coloured S Types are both manual 3.8s one with steel wheel the other with wires.

Very nice. Other than the rain could be SA where Old English White was by some margin the most popular colour.

Exellent!

Rain, have been using rainpellant for a long time, also on modern cars. Very effective but the «long lasting» claim is exaggerated. Will probably hold for a wedding or two. Many different brands, some better than others. But if chances are for rain relatively quick to apply.

Does it work on the inside as well. We had more problems with condensation on the inside. Wet bedraggled bridesmaids and ushers sitting in the cars steaming up the windows. The demist on the Mk2 and S Types was always known to be bad but the amount of rain we had yesterday and the short journeys just compounded the condensation.

Never tried but maybe if enough moist. On outside water behaves as on a newly polished car. Draws into droplets and runs / blows off.

Well done, Rob! That's quite an achievement. Saturday was a truly awful day.

I was part of an S-type/420/Mk2 line-up at British Motor Museum yesterday. Glorious blue sky for that!
