1B58945DN - LYD707E Restoration - Sandblasting testing.

Post by LYD707E »

Hi to everyone and thanks once again for your help.

The mechanic has already given me the car back for starting with the sandblasting.

Even though I was a bit scared, I have tried it and it works quite well and the result is just great.

I have only done a small area because today it is a bank holiday in Spain and I have not any primer to apply and avoid it becomes rusty. I also need to acquire more sand (Aluminum silicate).

I'm including a pictures of the blasted area.

Any tips you have are more than welcome.

Regards,

Fernando.

Strongly suggest you don't use this method on the large flat panels like doors, roof, bonnet and boot. This will cause distortion, if you want to blast it use soda as a blast medium.

Hola Nigel,

I'm sandblasting with a non professional air compressor and blast gun. So, it's not too powerful and I don't think it can distort body panels???? Am I right?

Un saludo,

Fernando.

I still wouldn't use Aluminum silicate as it leaves a rough surface that will need a lot of high build primer to make good. If you can find these in Spain they are much better https://www.screwfix.com/p/non-woven-pr ... 15mm/83915 use with an angle grinder or use a wire cup on a grinder.
