Will got it out.....thanks. Did fit the new ball joint on the right with the shims. Left is pending......If I use the sealed ball joint, do I still need the shims that were on the left and right side of the old one?

Nigel...thanks for the IRS info...I will look up your old thread.
Thanks,

The shims go in the bin, no need for them.

I thought you were going to say that......damn I wish parts came with instructions. Now I have to take the other side apart and remove the shims. I got them in there, but very tight.
I guess it is good to do it right......duh.
Thanks,

Sorry to give you more work but it's the only way, you won't regret doing away with the old style joints in the long run.

Well, went into the shop today to remove the shims from the ball joint. Took the shims out and the wishbone would not close/tighten up without shims. I loosened all the bolts and tried again and it just would not tighten up against the new ball joint. So I put the shims back in and did the same on the other ball joint. Perhaps my new ball joint needs the shims. Oh well, at least the are the same on both sides. Thanks for all the help.

Sounds very strange to have to use the shims. Does your setup look anything like the photo of my car below?

Ahh I thought we were talking about the lower joint. In that case you will need the shims for the top joint to set the caster angle, did you take note of the shim positions when you took it all apart?

Yup, sure did. All of them. Got the other side done today. Tomorrow we add the steering and rods. Rotors, calipers, etc. will not be mounted until the tires are painted. Easier to handle this way.

Getting ready to tear into the rear. I read Alan Slawson's article. Wow, all those parts replaced and that did not even include the brakes and rotor. Did you guys do all that???? Should all those parts be replaced?
Thanks
