As I understand Orlando I think he is talking from a driver's perspective.

I have an inquiring mind. I want to know where all three of us got it wrong. My car was not originally like this.

Looking at the picture you posted it looks like the upward slope is towards the RIGHT, not the left as you wrote. Am I correct?

Yes, it slopes up to the right in the photograph, which is the left side of the car, sitting in the drivers seat.

Why not just make a new bracket with one side shorter by the difference needed to level it? (instead of messing with engine mounts).

Yes, I might end up doing that, though the bracket is more complicated than you'd think:

But I'd like to get the engine sitting in its proper place on the existing engine mounts first. It is currently at the extreme ends of the slots in the engine mount bracket assemblies (the brackets bolted to the engine - 71/72 in the parts diagram Glyn posted).

I don't want to modify my bracket. I originally had my bracket powder coated. That lifted so I sandblasted & painted black. When I had the inlet system off recently I carefully examined the bracket for distortion but it's not in any way bent. My filter housing is mint.

I'm very interested to see if Orlando can correct at the engine block brackets.

yes I understand.

you could cut the bracket in half, the side to side extension is irrelevant, since the actual support is at the "legs" that are bolted to the cylinder head, and the air cleaner is very light.

if your engine is not 100% vertical as you say, how then does the rear support mount match with the bracket at the rear of the engine and bulkhead?

wouldn't it be off too? or does the bracket at the rear of engine rotates?

I will take a look at my air cleaner a.s.a.p. but the car is in storage and I have to move a lot of stuff to get a line of sight view of it to see if it is straight or tilted.

The rear engine stabiliser can accommodate this minor deviation from vertical & the left & right front stabilisers you simply adjust to suit.

Yep! ~ when you eyeball it & it lines up with the data plate that is fine.

ok, that settles that question with mine. I had not noticed it levels straight with the data plate.

I have removed it several time and it just falls in place once the "mouth" is inserted into the aluminium intake, very easy.

my engine also has the stabilizers and I replaced the rubber bushes one stabilizer at a time, did not have any trouble other than a power steering hose being in the way of the passenger side stabilizer bracket. But I got it eventually. Motor mounts I haven't touched, they look fine.

Just to get my two cents worth in, my air cleaner appears to be more or less level. I guess I never gave it a second thought. I would be more than happy to take the cleaner off and measure the bracket if it would help anyone.

On another related matter, the subject of the number and location of d-washers and plain washers. My parts book lists 5 d-washers and 7 plain washers which is obviously incorrect as there are 14 studs. I installed 4 d-washers and 10 plain washers on my car, all just under the dome nuts, which means they go on top of the lifting brackets, spark plug loom tabs and air cleaner bracket legs, in addition to the two in the front corner stud locations.

As it happens, on my E Type there are 6 d-washers and 8 plain washers listed in the parts book, all located as above with the exception that there is no air cleaner bracket.

What do you all think?

Love comparing these photos of the engine layouts.
Plug Leads.
Orlando, Glyn and myself all have the plug leads coming from the distributor over the top of the Cam cover whereas Alan and Jose have there plug leads coming up the front of the engine bedside the coil and through the valley of the Cam covers.
I know the reason mine comes over the Cam cover and that is because when I bought new leads thay were quite short even though they were supposed to be for the Jaguar engine and they only just stretch across the top of the cam cover.
So the question is which way should the leads lie?
