Just out of interest, the JEC magazine did a survey (online and on paper) of their members recently and compared the ages with previous surveys. The results are of those who completed the survey, not of the overall club membership. Response rate was 10%. However, it does make sobering reading. There is a trend amongst younger people not to join clubs any more and this is supported by much anecdotal evidence within our field and outside it. But that doesn't necessarily mean they're not interested in classic cars or whatever; they're just reluctant to sign up for things; and maybe they're reluctant to complete surveys, too.

My apologies, I missed this thread about the website overview started by David, as it's half term and we have three of the grand kids here, but I would be up to buy the archive on a memory stick. Agree with age of S type owners I hit my three score & ten in Oct, should have bought one earlier in life especially with such a brilliant forum as this for reference and information. Please keep up the good work everybody as this site is very much appreciated.

Without giving away proprietary information. Changes in patterns observed. The younger set.

1) Want instant access to forums via their Social Media accounts.
2) Read headlines not long winded copy. Very short attention spans.
3) Vibrant OT (Off Topic) sections have been displaced by Social Media. Still considered important though.
4) Want daily discourse with other members even if it's repeat.
5) Do not want to search forums. Want their queries replied to even if repeat.
6) Expect very short response times to requests for help 24/7/365.
7) Do not respond to surveys unless you give them something & even then reluctant.
8) The youngest are extremely fickle & will change allegiance at the drop of a hat.
9) Like features such as constant scrolling of threads & good display on cell phones.
10) Very quickly become global even if an English only forum. Cultural sensitivity required to accommodate differing norms and a degree of language difficulty.

This would seem to gel with your comment on a reluctance to join clubs Orlando. They already feel they are part of a larger global club. It is sometimes staggering to see the number of people online to a vibrant forum that are non members but interested in a topic. Negative schemes to block non membership from seeing photos, data etc. usually end up being just that ~ negative. They don't encourage membership. Better to wait until those hovering have a question to ask stimulated by content.
