1966 3.4 Auto
Re: 1966 3.4 Auto
Its not looking very pretty under there. The front cross member doesn't seem to be attached to anything on that side! Not very good at all.

That looks nasty! Make sure you remove both front and rear subframes before putting on the rotiserie. Looking at the state of the front the IRS will probably drop out when you jack it up so watch out!

Re: 1966 3.4 Auto
I will be putting it on my ramp on Saturday Nigel to get the suspension out and make a start on removing the engine as well. WIll be welding some braces in as well. the left side looks not bad but the right hand side of the car is a state.

Carbs removed, the bottom 2 bolts of the fan shroud are solid so will get them from the underneath tomorrow to get the rad out and then the fan off. The right hand engine mount is partially collapsed as well so will be fun. I don't think the car will be going too high on the ramp! I think the front subframe will be falling off when it is lifted so will get the wheels off to reduce the weight sharpish!

Re: 1966 3.4 Auto
Removed the engine and gearbox and also the IRS yesterday. Next up is to brace the chassis after getting some more of the interior out. After that, will remove whats left of the right hand chassis rail and order up 2 new full length chassis rails and the associated cross member parts. I can then get the car on the rotisserie and start in earnest on letting more new metal in!

As can be seen, there is a lot of work needed on the offside.

Re: 1966 3.4 Auto
Well done getting all that out without the car collapsing! I comend your bravery in taking on a project with this much rust, keep updating us as you go on as it will be a valuable example of what can be done in bringing an S Type back from the dead.

The sills have been done badly at some point so there is still a good bit of strength in the shell. Going to get a couple of hours on it today to start cleaniing things up underneath and form a plan of action.

Re: 1966 3.4 Auto
The reason the right hand side seems so bad is that there has been a minor engine fire at some point. Thats why the paint on the inner arch has gone and probably why it is so rotten with the paint being scorched, no rust protection. Half of the sound deadening under the bonnet was all melted and had fallen alll over the engine. The loom had been retaped as well. I need to see if anyone has a scrap shell or inner wing or bulk head panels to make the job a bit easier.
