Yes, the 'Do not service element unless damaged' version pre-dates the S-type, as I was kindly advised by David after having commissioned it! Still, it will be useful for earlier Jags and others.

BTW, I Say Ding Dong will reproduce a decal (as a sticker) for free if you can show there is sufficient market for it and can send them a decent image and dimensions. They are very obliging.

Just returning to the subject of this thread - radical, I know - I thought this image from the Autocar road test 19 March 1965 might be useful. I noticed three things:

1. The collar is higher up the intake tube than I've seen on most cars.

2. The hose definitely is on the outside of the intake tube.

3. The hose is shiny (in contrast to mine, which isn't!)

That looks to be a 1964 produced car & we know they were all over the place so that is of little concern. The original pipe definitely had more of a sheen than yours. We know that Alan's pipe is OE. Orlando I have hundreds of pictures of S Type engine compartments & your fitment is typical & looks fine. (you could apply some satin lacquer if the lack of shine bothers you but I would not worry.)

This was an OE pipe shoved up hard but not as far as as the Autocar pic. You can see the collar above it still to be fitted correctly.

This tubing is a lot more shiny & likely a substitute. More course.

There were also a few variations on the Aircleaner shell snout. But not common.

I found a Ford Clamp which is somewhat similar to the S type's front hose clamp.

It was 1/2" inch wider in diameter than the 3" inch diameter S type clamp. (3-1/2")

It is also narrower at 1/2" inch as opposed to the S type's 7/8" width.

But it does the same job the same way.

Here it is restored. I found a 3" inch diameter container and used it to reform the clamp, cutting off the excess while copying the one from my car.

If anyone cannot find a clamp, contact me.

Thanks Alan, it is a suitable replacement, not the exact factory part but it gets the job done.

Attached is a photo of the original air intake hose on P1B79909DN and an NOS one I bought a few years ago.
It is all in Newsletter Vol 7, No 4 in the Archives.
Cheers
