That is what we try and do on here Dennis. Quick responses and accurate information. Because we are a one model forum someone on here will have done it, repaired it, upgraded it and taken photos of the process.
Where are you as you have not put a location in your details. If you live close enough to one of us we are always willing to travel out and lend a hand, tools and knowhow.

Hi Denis and first welcome to the forum. We are here to help as much as we can with descriptions and photos if we have them so any questions please ask.
When I took by centre facia off as I recall I took the wood off and left metal backing in situ. I removed all the gauges one at a time unplugging all the wiring from the back, removing the gauge from the facia and then I plugged all the wiring back on to the gauge and let it hang. This way I knew where all the wiring went when I reassembled it. Once all the gauges and switches have been removed from the wooden facial I believe it just came off. There are then two bolts at the hinges which you undo and you can remove the metal facia unit.
From memory I do not recall any screws holding the wood facia to the metal plate but there must have been something even if it was just the gauges pinning the wood to the metal. May be someone with a better memory or who has done this more recently can help out here.

Hi Dennis. The centre wood is held onto the flap down copper plated metal panel by the light switch knob & escutcheon & the 4 gauges.

Take off the the knob & this will release the escutcheon. Release all 4 gauges & draw them out from the front. Photograph from behind to aid reassembly before doing this.

HI All,

I have just started removal of all the interior wood in my 1968 S type, I have got stuck with removal of the wood from the instrument panel, I have read that there are 6 wood screws fixing the wood to the steel back plate. I cannot find any of these, I have removed the light switch and the escutcheon on the facia wood. Are the various meters holding the wood to the steel back plate ? do I have to remove the wiring from the meters and unclamp them to draw the wood facia off ? Any help would be gratefully received by a new member to this forum and owner of a S type .

with white cotton gloves is how I would install every piece. It is stunning, that's how Saul does it. You should see the Bentley and Rolls Royce dashes he does for clients in Europe.

Saul is not cheap but his work is world-class. I know him and have been to his modest shop. He is from Wales. Owns a 340 and a 420.
