Auto or manual as they are different due to the columb change on the Auto.
C20794 for the manual.
C20792 for the Auto.

the lower half of the Nacelle? (the upper and lower black covers for the steering column behind the steering wheel?) for automatic or manual ?
if not that, what exactly is a Cowling?
The "Cowls" are the exterior areas at the bottom of the front and rear windscreens.

It is English Jose not American. A cowling wraps an item such as a cowling around an aircraft engine or intake, in this case around the steering column. It means the same as Nacelle if you check the dictionary.
In the parts manual this item is called "Lower switch cover at centre of steering wheel"
We will not get in to Bonnets and Hoods or Boots and Trunks, Rubbish and Garbage, Pavements and sidewalks or driving on the wrong side of the road.

but Nacelle is the word used by Jaguar in the Service Manual. Not "switch cover".
But regardless, I just learned of an ALUMINUM upper and lower Nacelle used in MK-2. Ever heard of that? First time I hear about it. I have the owner digging through boxes to find it, I told him I want it yesterday.
I will post pictures when I get it, it is the same as the Nacelles in S type but cast in aluminum.

they "mate" the same way, the difference is that the Manuall O.D. has a very small notch / cutout for the Overdrive stalk switch, (if the transmission has overdrive), as opposed to the large cutout for the Automatic shifter arm.
There is / was a third version for non-overdrive cars with no cutout at all, but a blank can be added to overdrive nacelles for non-overdrive cars.
so is your car Manual Overdrive or Manual 4-speed ?
