Generator/Power Steering

I have 65 Jag 3.8S. I am considering the power steering kit from XKS Unlimited. How do I know if the generator is set up to accommodate
power steering connections? Also if anyone has gone this route with their car how difficult is it to shorten the steering shaft. I have the capability
to do the welding.

Hi Mark, I presume you are thinking of using XK's Power Kit, LHD - 14-4001. It looks lile it uses the original dynamo as fitted to the power steering models. If you don't have one of those then you will have to find one and the pump fitted to the rear of it. I see XK's sell a A.C. Delco item that has a pump take off but at a cost of $700. The steering column on the S Types are the cast type and not easy to weld, it will have to be sleeved then welded.
Watjag in the UK sell a complete kit to convert to power steering using an electric pump with an uprated alternator for about £1700 (They offer LHD) IMHO this would be a better way to go, you still have to chop the column though. If you are interested in this system PM me your email address and I'll send you the fitting instructions

also check the alternator with power steering dog adapter sold by retro air in Dallas. Rock Browning the owner will help you figure it out.

and as a note of warning: Careful with XK's Unltd.: They offer lousy customer service if you can call it that. Myself and others have had bad experiences with them.

Thanks for the advise, after much consideration I am going to leave it stock. I got enough to do already.
