What have you just done with your S Type.
This weekend being a Bank Holiday in the UK meant we had the Monday as a Holiday as well.
I had a wedding on Saturday and another on Monday with the S Type. Both had fantastic weather but it meant I only had Sunday to work on the car.
I decided to take the wire wheels off the car and give them and the wheel arches a good clean. First I gave the wires a good soaking of degreasent inside and out which was scrubbed in using a stiff paint brush. Left for about twenty minutes and then blasted with the jet washer. Came up really clean although the paint on the front wires has been tarnished by the brake dust slightly so I might have to look at repainting the front wheels at some point.
Using the jet washer I got under the wings of the car and cleaned all the nooks and crannies that can only be seen with the wheels off. I was amazed at the amount of dirt inside the rear wheel arches which is hidden by the wheel when in place and by the dirt sat on top of the light pods at the front of the car. Once the main dirt was removed I scrubbed the inner wheel arches with the degreasent and brush before jet washing it all off to finish.
The hubs and wires were re greased using copper grease and put back on the car.
I then did an oil and filter change on the engine ready for next weekend. Finally I re tuned the carbs using the colourtune kit I had borrowed. I found the car had been running very rich so this was weakened off and the starting problem I had when hot has now been cured.

Re: What have you just done with your S Type.
Your climatic conditions certainly push up the maintenance.
Washed & dried my car. Minor interior clean. Took it for a good run. Attracted much attention with light flashing, hooting, thumbs up & a chap in a Range Rover even stopped me to take a look. Rather embarrassing actually.
Have my first minor oil leak. Seems to be the little return to sump pipe from the filter head. Nipped up the clamps & will watch. Found my 4lb radiator cap was not sealing at all. Fitted a new 7lb cap & coolant usage is now under far better control.
I guess an old Jaguar free of all leaks might be a forlorn hope but I'm trying.

Re: What have you just done with your S Type.
As rain was forecast - and did actually arrive - my car has been in the garage since last Friday. As you may remember, it doesn't go out in the rain.
I did however swap the 'winter' footmats (maroon) for the 'summer' ones (light beige).
I also went to the A47 classsic car show/autojumble near Leicester, where I spotted an S-type for sale at £15.5k. Quite nice condition, but the bottoms of all the doors need attention.

Orlando you missed a trick there. You could have bought this one as your winter driver and left your other one in the garage for the sunny days.lol.

LOL! Funnily enough, I have been toying with the idea of a 420/Sovereign for just that purpose. Need another garage, really, though, plus £10k to actually buy one!
Yes, it looks a nice enough car. As you say, Dave, people are easily put off and, for that money, they'd expect it to be pretty sound, bodily.

Re: What have you just done with your S Type.
I had a great weekend. Friday, I took the radiator and fan out of Miss Kitty. Both fit great. The water pump pulley and fan shroud disappeared when the shop was moved and the gentleman that took them out passed away. Oh well, got both from SNG and they are ready to be put back into Miss Kitty. I installed the 60 amp alternator (replacing the generator). Need one more bracket to attach the rear of the alternator to the motor mount bracket. This install uses the old generator pulley. It will need some material taken off of the shoulder of the pulley to align correctly. That needs to be done.
The shop closed for Memorial Day weekend. Saturday, I spent putting together my birthday present: A Pit Boss Ultimate BBQ Grill. I gave my old one to the shop.
Sunday, was a day of rest from putting the BBQ together (6 hours) yesterday. I seasoned the BBQ.
Monday, Memorial Day and my 68th birthday. Fired up the new BBQ and made filet mignons, ribeyes, steak pieces, shrimp, garlic bread, and other stuff. What a meal.........took the rest of the day off.
Today, trying to sort out the last of the chrome parts to Miss Kitty (see post under the Miscellaneous thread). Going to the shop at 5:30 pm to 8:30 p.m. to continue to work on the Miss Kitty's windows.

Took mine for a run to burn off that dam diesel I mistakenly put in the tank on the way back from Blenheim, it took 120 miles to get rid of of it. Got back and checked the oil level after Glyn's advice and found it raised. Quickly got it up on the air and drained out the oil with a distinct whiff of diesel in it, now waiting for a new filter from Barrett's - it has an EBC 9658 spin on item suprisingly not Available from my local Jaguar main dealer.

Nigel, it seems you were very lucky there and you might owe Glyn a pint or two!
Yes, Joe, Happy Birthday! And you too, Rob.
