Jose,
Got it.....ordered a new rubber bush and bolts. Found it in the manual, too. Clear as can be. Looked in wrong place. Thanks so much.

Rob,

Bump stop mount OK.....Whew.

Glad you still have the bump stop mounts.
For anyone else out there with an S Type this is one of the areas where the car can rot out through bad cleaning. Mud can sit on the top of the bump stop mount and rust it out. Also mud can sit in the scallops of the inner wig and this can rust through as well. When I had my car blasted this was an area that had rust holes and I was able to get the inner wings scallop sheets from a 420 that had been scrapped. I then cut out the scalloped area of the inner wing and welded in the new plates. It is an area you hardly see unless you take off your rear wheels on a regular basis. Even to clean is difficult with the wheels left in place so if you can every once in a while take off the rear wheels and clean the inner wing.

Rob....a lot of work for sure. You did a great job.

New question: On the front cross member there is a bolt where this mount goes. My new ones only fit over the threaded portion and does not fit flush against the cross member. My cross member was painted and the paint may be stopping it from fitting flush against the cross member. Before I clean it up and make it fit, I wanted to make sure that it is supposed to fit flush against the cross member. Am I correct?
Thanks,

Joe before you start scraping your new paint to try and get these flush make sure that your main chassis to subframe mounts are the correct way around. They are slightly offset and I had this problem. If you put them in the wrong way around the subframe sits either backwards or forward about a 1/4 of an inch (cannot remember which way around now) and the front mount will not sit flush so the bolts will not go in. When I did mine I had thoughts in my mind about putting ratchet straps across the front to pull the subframe in to position but eventually took it all apart and noticed the off set on the main chassis to subframe mounts, changed them around and it all sat perfect. I felt a bit of a fool as I had spent hours trying to solve the problem but it is all about learning.

Here is a pic of my old ones that clearly shows that the largest part of the mount goes flush to the cross member. This is what I was going to follow and do the same.

Joe it is not the mounts on the end of the subframe but the mounts at the back which sit astride the chassis legs. The area on the subframe where the mount sits is marked with the blue arrow. It is held on to the subframe by two bolts but there is only one bolt that goes through the mount and the chassis leg. The two mount holes are slightly offset so if you put these in back to front when you bolt them to the chassis legs the subframe sits too far towards the front and then the front mount does not want to sit flush with the mounting point on the cross member at the front of the car. I do hope this makes sense.
When mounting the rear subframe you can come across the same problem as the rear mounts are slightly offset and again if you put them in the wrong way you cannot line the holes up with the chassis legs. We talked about this in the archive forum and here is a link to that topic. http://www.jagstyperegister.com/forum/v ... ?f=16&t=40

Joe,

there is a lot of good information in this thread that is getting lost because it is hidden in the thread and hardly anyone reads through 9 pages of thread.

As you and I found out, there are questions and replies here that I had not even seen and which contain excellent info. from Cass and others.

The Transmission Support, the Front Member mounts, etc., all those subjects deserve their own thread for everyone's benefit, but they are hidden here, not easily found. It's like looking in the South Indian Sea for MH370.

I could try to split this thread into sections and move them into their proper forums but it is a lot of work to do so since everything is so intermingled.

What I might do instead, is to post LINKS to this thread based on the subject. Let's post future questions in their designated forums for the benefit of everyone else, myself included. Thanks.

Jose....
Understand....All future posts will be in their respective threads. Why don't you delete the last six posts regarding the sandwich mount and I will repost it in the suspension section.
Thanks for getting me in line.....
