I did all the work myself apart from the gearbox rebuild and the machining/rebore on the engine but I stripped the engine down and built it back up once the rebore had been completed. I have photos of nearly every stage although there were times I could not hold a camera and work on an item at the same time and other times when I started work on something and then found I had completed it without taking intermediate step photos.
I was lucky that all the workshops were owned by friends who had different skills that I could steal from. So although for instance I did all the welding, body work and paint prep in one workshop the owner, Rob, was looking over my shoulder making sure it was done properly. The same with the paint shop and my mate Mark. By keeping and servicing all the old parts I was also able to keep the cost of the rebuild down. So I bought the car for £4500 and spent about £6000 so it owes me £10500 which I have already got back and more doing weddings.

Hi Rob
You were really lucky to have access to all those workshops that is a bonus with advice as well, I can see how you did such a good job at such a reasonable price, you must be well pleased with the result. I understand also why you changed colour from the original Dove Grey to White with the weddings in mind, it all makes sense, a self financing project brilliant.
As things have moved on from my original post, I wondered if you have changed to the spin on type oil filter & adaptor on your 3.4 from the original set up ?. Only further down the road for the next oil change, I was thinking of converting but over heard a conversation about a MK 2 recently that had experienced oil leaks from this set up. The guy was going on to the one piece Wilkinson oil filter set up instead, but at three times the price, I wondered if he had a one off problem with the adaptor type.

I changed mine to a spin off several years ago and it is covered in the archives at http://www.jagstyperegister.com/forum/v ... f=13&t=170
Not had a problem with mine. Very easy to change and leak free.
The people I dealt with at http://www.flexolite.co.uk/cat.asp?cID=4 were fantastic. I ordered it at 1640 on the Friday evening and it arrived at 0900 on the Saturday morning.
We are changing subjects again in mid topic Dave which we have to be careful of. We have in the past in the archives had a topic that ran for pages and pages which was great but it kept changing subject so a search would never have found what we were talking about in the end because it did not relate to the heading. Great to have so many people asking questions though. Keep them coming.

I also have the Flexolite spin-on conversion. I've not noticed any leaks from it. Mind you, I do have leaks from almost everywhere else!

I need to check with the guy who owned the MK2 if it was his road car with the oil leaks or his race MK2 with the problem, as that will possibly have the oil & filter changed more, hence the oil leaks.
Thanks for the info though.
