Folks ~ I hope I have not upset the apple cart here. Apologise if I have. But if Harrington's is going to make you a new set they may as well make them properly. Barratts has made a one size fits all tail light copy for the S Type/420/Mk10/420G/Daimler Limo instead of correct LH & RH. The damn things don't fit properly & are very obvious to me.

I was lucky to get perfect NOS originals for my car.

You are right Glyn and we have had this conversation before about authenticity.

SNG Barrett the Jaguar specialists do list the front over rider part numbers BD26635 and BD26636 as different items as seen here. They also supply BD26636U which I assume is the generic over rider.

They also show the rear over riders BD25274 and BD25275 as two different items. They also supply BD25275U as the generic rear.

Buying the generic over rider and fitting it is fine for an everyday car like mine but not for a show car perhaps. A generic bumper is fine until you sit it beside an original bumper as I have found out. I actually like the shape of the over riders that Harringtons have supplied me. The fronts slope backwards giving it a more pleasing and aggressive look in my eyes than the square upright originals and they sit on the bumper just fine. But Harringtons have a reputation to uphold as they supply replica bumpers for a lot of high class collector cars and if they are not right and the owner does have points deducted at shows because of them it does not look good so they need to get it right. If I can supply them with a decent set of original bumpers to copy I think they will send me a set so I have the option of fitting them to my car or leaving the first set of over riders on.

Yup! People must make their own decisions & be happy. I note the so called "uprated" over rider is slightly more expensive. I don't criticise others choices. My car is not perfect but the best I could do with my resources.

I noticed the Uprated ones were more expensive as well but there is no way you would by one singuly as it would not match the original you already had. Whereas you would buy an original part numbered one singuly to match an original you all ready had. Why buy a poor copy that is more expensive?

I think there are some upgrades that you can put on your car that were not original but are in keeping with the age and style of the car. Stainless steel bumpers when correct are one. Changing from Steel wheels to Wires and Wooden steering wheel which both optional extras at the time of manufacturing. Same with seat belts and inertia reels. Positive to negative earth is a good upgrade so you can run an alternator but I draw the line at changing the seats to XJ6 power seats with head restraints, electric windows, 4.2 litre engine, round rear wheel arches. changing to an XJ6 Power steering rack when you can buy and fit an original PAS system, Aluminium radiator, 12 speaker stereo system, Modern Alloy wheels.

Can anyone else remember seeing an upgrade to an S Type or Mk2 Jaguar that has made them think, "No that is not right"!

Just to confirm Glyn's post regarding different over riders for L/H & R/H, having found another over rider for the rear you can see the off set & slant is different. So thanks Glyn for pointing this out as I had no idea they were different, so I will make sure they fit correctly when re-assembling.
Cheers
Dave J.

This post is interesting as, for some time, I have been concerned that my front bumper over riders are incorrect. I have never seen them on another S-type. Perhaps they are so wrong that they come from a completely different make of car, though somebody recently told me that the 420 had these "at one stage" (again, I can't find any pics of 420s with these sloped over riders).

Any thoughts?

Those front over riders are either XJ6 Mk1 or MkX/420G

I think you will find that your over riders come from a Jaguar 420G or Mk10. The little 420 had the same over riders as the S Type although the bumper was straight unlike the S Type or 240/340 front bumper that had the scoop to go under the grill. I have attached some photos of the 420 front bumper and 420G. Your over rider is definitely like the 420G.These photos were taken of a set of bumpers that I sent the Harrington group to copy in stainless steel.

This is the little 420 front bumper.

Rob ~ we posted over one another. See above. When I see your pic I'm more inclined toward XJ6 Mk1
