Hopefully, Miss Kitty will be painted and we can now install the engine, transmission, and front and rear suspension. Spending next week attaching all the car mounts.

I found the little jobs went on for months, all the little bits of stipping down, cleaning, bagging, indexing, painting, polishing, ordering replacements for the bits that could not be saved. I never seemed to be gettting anywhere until one day the car was painted, doors fitted, then the subframes, Engine and gearbox and propshaft. Once again I could see a car in front of me and I was getting somewhere.
Not to put a downer on it but after that elation came the fitting of all the fiddly bits, which just kept coming. And it seemed I was taking one step forward and two back as I would fit a part only to have to take it back off again to fit another part. My patience was drawn very thin and there were some late nights spent in the garage.
In the end it was all worth it.
Great job you are doing Joe and if you want any advice putting it back together you know we are always here for you.

I could not agree with your more Rob. Feelings are the same on this end. I have a long backorder list from SNG which also requires patience. So far, the only thing I heard from my guy was that he was not confident in attaching the chrome in the new way. I have the new fastener kit from SNG using the rivets, but we have not looked at it yet. I am sure that there will be lots of issues and I appreciate you guys being there. My biggest mistake was not being there during the initial tear down of the vehicle, so I am unfamiliar with many of the parts, except for the engine, front, and rear.

One question: Where does the bump stop #49 attach to the rear end? Parts manual just shows it off to the side.

Joe on the inner rear wheel arch there is the chassis leg which runs along the bottom and above this is the thin metal which is the inner wing and boot side. The bump stop bolts on to a bracket which is welded to the chassis leg section. On my car one side was rotted away and the other had a big hole in it. Neither had bump stops attached as they had fallen off. I have attached a couple of photos to try and show you where they are positioned. I had to make two new bump stop brackets out of sheet metal and and weld them in place. Not hard work but needs to be done before your paint work is finished!!!!!!!!

Thanks....I guess I better go visit Miss Kitty and see what I have. Looks like it only attaches to the body and does not attached to the rear suspension.....right? Do you attached it then install the rear or visa versa? Man I wish I was there when they removed the engine, front, and rear.

Second question: How does coil spring and retainer attach to the transmission and body as part of the Rear Engine Mount.....parts 89, 90 in the parts manual?

Hi Joe in my case the bump stops were fitted and then the subframe offered up but it can be done the other way round just a bit tighter to get in to do up the nuts.
As for 89 and 90 the diagram is not clear in the parts manual for the manual gearbox but if you look at the diagram for the Auto box it shows it more clearly. https://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/cata ... sion/#p=30
Here it shows the long bolt/pin (19) that goes through the bottom of the mount and spring and screws in to the underside of the gearbox. There is a hole on the bottom of the bolt/pin indicated by the small black dot. When you assemble the spring I seem to remember you compressed the spring and held it all in place with a pin through that hole and attached it to the underside of the car but removed the pin once it was bolted down to allow it to slide up and down in the rubber ring. Somebody please correct me if I am wrong here as I am going on my poor memory as I do not have any photos of this installation and it might only be the Auto box which has this bolt/pin.
I cannot do it until Monday but I will be able to get the car up on my ramp and photograph my gearbox mount assembly for you if you wish but it is an Auto box not manual.

Rob....I do not have a pin...but no need to give me pics of yours since it is an auto. Let's see if others chime in and I will go take another look at mine in the meantime to look for the bracket, washer, etc.

Joe got the car on the ramp today as I finished early and took some photos of the gearbox mount assembly for you. I think the assembly is the same for both the manual and auto box but the gearboxes all changed. So mine is the BW35 and the previous auto box was the DG250. Up to 1964 the S Type Manual was fitted with Moss four-speed manual gearbox with no synchromesh on first gear but was replaced in 1964 with with Jaguar's own all-synchromesh four-speed gearbox. As the bodies were relatively unchanged I would assume the mounting points would have remained the same for all gearboxes.

4 bolts fasten the mounting plate to the body.

the transmission can be raised slightly with adjustable jack to be able to compress spring and rubber bush.
the long pin goes out through the mounting plate and it is temporarilyl caught by a cotter pin and flat washer.

once the mounting plate is tightened, the cotter pin and washer are removed and saved.

I have some service manual instructions if needed
