Local S Type

Post by NigelW »

Whilst coming home from the shops today I saw an S Type come past me and it pulled into a house drive way just in front of me. I had to find out more so went and had a chat with the driver, found out he is not on the register and gave him details. It was a 3.8 , MOD, Op/green with green interior and on wires. Great to find another S only half a mile from me!

Good memory Jose I had forgotten about the valance. I will have to look up the old post about that and make one for my car.

the valance is an easy part to fabricate. All that is needed is a Siding Brake. It is a table where you lay a long piece of thin aluminium, clamp it, and bend it to a 90 degree fold in one movement.

the tool is used by aluminium house Siding installers in the US.

Siding aluminium material is too thin though, the valance needs to be thicker metal.

once the metal is bent to 90 degrees, then the rounded corners are shaped with a wood template, cut, and brazed.

When I built my Lotus seven I used two pieces of wood to clamp the alloy in and then bent it first with body weight and then a rubber hammer. Easy enough but I had just forgotten about it.
