Hi Folks,

I'm now getting back to completing work on my 1965 Jaguar "S" type, 3.8 auto with Power Steering, chassis P1B 56135BW.

My current problem is ascertaining the correct route for the two vacuum hoses, one from the inlet manifold to the vacuum reservoir tank, and the the other from the tank to the servo.

The present route has the hoses meandering around the engine bay, and then coming through the lower edge of the servo "shield ". ( See the first photo, one hose has been removed. By being forced through the bottom edge of the servo shield, the hoses are very mis-shaped, and one has almost worn through.)

There is an unused hole just forward of the servo shield ( see second photo) which might be more sensible, but it isn't really big enough for the two hoses side-by-side.

Please would someone enlighten me as to the factory approved route, as I'm sure mine is not how Jaguar intended, although a sensible route is not obvious to me.

See here. Early servo shown but connections are the same. Later servo is larger diameter & has no remote breather. Please add your car details to your profile.

Hi Glyn,

Thank you for your prompt reply, and especially the photo. Judging by your photo, ( wow, how many of our cars are still that immaculate) my hoses were roughly in the correct position, but trapped by the lower edge of the shield.

This is my servo shield removed, and I had assumed the "missing" bit had simply corroded away. My hoses were exiting from the lower r.h.side, and the shield was missing a securing "stud" and distorted, because of the hose.
Would you happen to know what the securing "studs" are called? I would like to obtain some replacements.

Your car like mine has the newer, larger booster with 2 or 3 mounting studs. Early boosters were rim mounted.
