Heavily Modified 3.8S from Aus.
P1B58319BW ~ Heavily Modified 3.8S from South Australia for interest from my archive. While I like originality someone worked very hard on this car. I have never liked "Coombs" rear wheel arches grafted onto the back of an S Type but I do like the neat custom front skirt fitted below the front bumper. David/Rob ~ you might want to add to the Register.

A matter of preference, I actually like the rear wheel arches, for me it makes the car look more balanced and less bulbous , not keen on the steering wheel though . Edit, I see that it has a floor mounted auto box gear shift this would really help me .

Yes, that's an interesting car. Thanks for posting Glyn. I'm not keen on the arches or the steering wheel. But the wood is nice. Wonder why there is no legroom in the back. Maybe they adjusted the front seat mechanism to make the seats go back further. The travel isn't that great on a standard car.

Yes ~ the steering wheel would not be my choice. Rather have a classic wheel from Nardi or Moto Lita. I think the wheel would look better sans horn ring. I don't like Coombs arches & prefer the flattened rear arch but I had 2 Alfa Berlina's & a Giulia amongst others in my youth with flattened rear arches. Another issue with the Coombs arch is it accentuates the narrow rear track even with greater offset wires & larger tyres. The pics above do not catch this narrow rear track stance at it's worst. On a Mk 2 with Coombs arch you can improve this vastly with a wider live axle. Not so easy with the IRS.
Great job of shoe-horning triple carb set up under the hood!

Great paint, Fantastic wood but the rest I am not sure about.
I prefer the flat arches and do not like the seats. They seem to be too big and bulky for the interior with no leg room in the back possibly because the front seats are so thick.

Re: Heavily Modified 3.8S from Aus.
Hi Guys
Does anybody recognise the big NO, NO in the images of the Australian modified 3.8S?
This NO, NO was taught to apprentices in my time and one company went out of their way to show what could happen with that arrangement.
Anybody know the answer, because this is a good example?
The only rule is that Orlando is barred from answering because I recently told him and pointed out the problem.
Thinking caps on!!!!!!

Is it to do with the configuration of the Brake, Power steering & water ? reservoirs being close together and in the same location.
