Seat Belt Mounting holes

Hi Gang,

Am getting ready to put rear seat belts in my car. Read the archives and found a great posting on installing them. There is supposed to be the mountings already in the car. Took out the rear seat and for the life of me I cannot find them. Maybe I am looking in the wrong places.

Do all S-Types already have the mounting holes installed?
Could someone let me know where I should look for the center mounting. Is in on the top or side of the tunnel?

Hi Scott.
There should be four threaded holes with plastic screw plugs in floor under the seat. One either side in the curved part of the inner rear wing it goes into the rear wing arch you can see it looking up in front of the rear wheel. The other two are either side of the propshaft tunnel above the differential they are 7/16 u.n.f thread. There is also one either side on the rear panel in front of the rear screen they are in the curved part of the screen area from inside the boot they are under the boot hinge again 7/16 u.n.f thread. I am in the process of fitting rear belts myself but my car is away at present but I cleaned out all of the holes with a tap before it when in for respray. The belt fitting standard is either lap or three point belts for two people only in the back not three. I bought a pair of secondhand Jaguar belts complete to match the front ones, but will get them re-webbed to fit into the back of the car. Hopefully this will help any other questions then shout somebody on here will have the answer.

Forgot to mention the two top bolt holes in front of the rear screen either side has no plastic plugs but are covered with panel plastic covering I just found where the holes were and made a hole to tap them out from the top, as they are really difficult to reach inside the boot.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the information. Kids and I returned from a few days away on Saturday. Today we pulled out the rear seats and installed the seat belts.

Was a lot of fun doing it with the kids. We first conditioned the leather while the seats were out.

Then did a good cleaning, found the plugs and then the fun began. I know if I had done it myself it would have taken half the time but that is not why we got the car. Pulled out the plugs, chased the threads, installed the belts, and re-installed the seats. Then we had to go for a test drive.

They ran into all sorts of issues doing this. After we were done they were proud and asked what the next thing we would do is?

We all loved that the holes were there and tapped. Funny that the kids commented about how hard the work was and after the test drive they commented that it was easy.

This is great, another lead. We are using Gliptone cleaner and conditioner. The website in the USA is quite different. There are none of the advice pages or dye being listed, only paint which I will not use.

My ten year old said that the leather felt like stale bread when we first got the car. Now it is much softer. I explained the process of the leather drying out and how right he was that it got stale.

In the US there has always been a bit of a mix up as to what is "genuine product". Others have used the trading style & there is a bunch in Ohio that use the "liquidleather" trademark. Gliptone New York goes back forever with car polishes etc. Gliptone UK specialise in leather care. I don't know if they ever had or still do have a connection.

I have only ever used product direct from them in the UK which is what I vouch for.

They have the largest library of heritage leather colours by manufacturer that I have ever seen.

In the words of a very knowledgeable chap from one of the major classic auction houses "they know more about leather restoration/renovation than Connolly does".
