jonesdl wrote: Fri May 10, 2019 7:08 pm Glyn. If you do cut up one of those bodies there is in the spare wheel well a round metal drain plug I have been looking for without success. If you look at the Suspension Misalignment post, page three at the bottom.there is a link to Orlando's car showing the plugs missing in the spare wheel well. I have the centre one missing after it had knock at some time I have repaired the damage to the well and under tray before it went in for re-spray, but have not been able to find one of those drain plugs. The Mk 2 well is different in size I believe they are only in the S Type & 420.
I have tried to contact Robert Burston in Devon so many times without success either by phone or Email he is really difficult to contact as he may have one to purchase.
If you are prepared to let one go I will of course pay for all costs etc to send to the U.K. and for the actual part.
The new boot wells do not show them separate to purchase only complete.

Dave,
Are you talking about plugs in these 3 holes in the spare wheel well. On SA CKD cars they just have blind plastic/rubber grommets in them. No metal plugs. They are long gone from these bodies.

Most cars have lost them over the years.

My car still has all three but I cannot remember if they are metal or plastic/rubber. As I had the car grit blasted and they are still in situ I would assume they are metal rather than plastic or rubber. All three are there in the photo its just the one at the back is darker in colour.
Perhaps UK cars came with metal disks fitted but not in the CKD cars.
I am sure though if you measure them you will be able to find rubber grommets on line that will fit.

Dave. This seems to be the likely steel plug fitted to some cars with the 7/8th Plastic/rubber shown below to others.

Many thanks for all your feed back very much appreciated, I have asked Barratt's and they stated they are not supplied now and the new well has one rubber plug in the centre. That's interesting about the change of metal & rubber in production. I will sort it somehow the car will not be back for a few weeks so perhaps there is a body out there with them still in, or it's a rubber or plastic one.

BD19721 shown above is the only steel body plug that size in the parts catalogue with some cars using 6 of them.

Barratts personnel don't know what they have or don't have. Barratts computer record of stock, however seems accurate. The only way is to search their new site by part number from the SPC.

Thanks for confirmation David of your car. 22mm rubber blind grommets do the trick.

I have just climbed under my car and taken these photos. Great when you have a white car.
The plug at the rear of the boot is a 25mm o/d rubber plug possibly in a 22mm hole.
The two side plugs are 22mm holes with metal plugs in them. When I get a chance I will take the spare wheel out and take a photo from inside the boot.
There is no plug in the centre of the spare wheel well.
I have no reason to doubt these are original as I have never touched them and I see no reason for my one previous owner to have removed them or replaced them.

Thanks Rob & your metal plugs are BD19721 and Barratts have stock. (Your pics show the little holding clips clearly)

Jag obviously changed from metal to rubber at some time during production.

Possibly the other way around Glyn. From rubber to Metal as mine is a later car and Davids 1966 original car has rubber grommets.
