Spoke to Jim this morning at Classic and Vintage Dynamos and he has four decent couplings he found yesterday. One sold to a gent who phoned just after I did, (you know who you are) and he had three left so I bought two. Orlando got a great deal at the show though as Jim priced them wrong. They actually cost £20 each not £10 and VAT had to be added plus postage by courier. Still a lot cheaper getting a decent second hand one than buying a new one at over £200 from SNG.
I also quizzed him about the heat shields for the PAS pump and he stated he had never come across one before. He stated he had seen some heat shield for Dynamos but not for the PAS pump. He also checked the rear plates on the PAS pumps he had an none of them had the holes that my original pump had for the shield to screw in to. He stated there were two types of backing plates he had come across, a flat plate and a humped back plate which I have not seen. None of his flat plated PAS pumps had holes in the back.

This was a great tip Orlando ~ what nice people to deal with. I also grabbed another spare coupling. People on eBay want crazy prices for ones in poor condition & xks Unlimited want a cool $330.

Glyn

Good that you were able to obtain two couplings and special thanks to Orlando for the tip.

One thing it shows is the power of a forum, it seems we all managed to obtain a coupling, we were lucky because they are getting to be rare and thus expensive.

From my viewpoint I was glad I raised the drive coupling issue in my post of 21st March. I have frequently looked around for a supply of couplings at sensible prices for some time, without success…….thank you again Orlando.

Until two years ago I was having parts made (all in England) for Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Alvis and Aston Martin cars, and I have now passed on the idea of remanufacturing this part to my previous suppliers. It is obvious that the current prices are over the top and yet there is a ready market for a quality replacement.

I would add an overdrive solenoid to my list of suggested spare parts, if the car is MOD.

You're all most welcome. Jim is a genuine guy who knows his stuff and has the knowledge and expertise to solve a lot of dynamo/starter issues. He deserves our support and custom. He also (I say 'also', but it's his main line of work!) rebuilds and repairs dynamos, starters, regulators, etc. He brings a huge trailer laden with stock to every Stoneleigh Spares Day.

His wife was not happy with the fact Jim sold you one at the spares day for £10 though Orlando. lol.
Thanks for the tip. I bought two , one to replace the one in my system and a second to go in to a spare PAS system which was missing the coupling and I might now sell on as a complete unit. Its an earlier Burman system from a 1965 S Type not a Variomatic that my car has.
