Air Cleaner Intake Hose / Seal / Clamp
Re: Air Cleaner Intake Hose / Seal / Clamp
I like the idea of a heat-resistant hose but I don't like the price. Originality is not my priority with this hose.

Yes ~ there is nothing wrong with the heat resistance or longevity of the original "paper"/foil hose. Probably outlast thermoplastic in serviceable condition.David Reilly wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 2:38 am Funny ...

I had thought of using this Aluminium flexible pipe then either painting it the right shade and gloss of black or leaving it none original silver. It could be cooler than using the paper pipe as being so close to the exhaust manifolds it might reflect some of the heat and keep the air flowing through it cooler.

2 3/4 pipe is about 70mm which they sell.

Also, I just discovered the XJ-6 Series 3 ( 1979-1987 ), uses the same Clamp for the exhaust "Y" pipe. P/N CAC2868.
Funny how Jaguar looked to older Jaguars to reuse parts.

I know its not original but it looks good and I also bought an aluminium trumpet from ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Air-Inlet-Fu ... ctupt=true to tidy up the end at it is difficult to cut a decent finish. This had to be trimmed on one side so it sat flat against the inner wing. I had found my original support bracket but could not find the round securing clip so instead utilised a stainless steel band clamp I had lying around. I personally think the result looks really good. The aluminium tube goes very well with all the other shiney bits I have under the bonnet.

Alan I have just finished fitting a stackdown kit so had the cam covers off and decided to polish them up a bit. I have a buffing wheel attached to my bench grinder to finish them off with some aluminium finishing paste but before that it is lots of hours with various grades of wet and dry sat over a bucket of warm soapy water. I started with 250 grit and worked up through 400 to 800 to 1200 and finished them with 1500 grit before getting them on the buffing wheel. I also polished the radiator top, air intake tube, water thermostat cover, the inlet manifold and repainted the head Duck Egg blue. Had a couple of hours free one day and it would have been rude to do one bit and not the rest.
