Re: Bonnet fit (panel gap)

The second reason is the adjustment of the hinge. [/b] You can easily check if the hinges have not been adjusted correctly. There are four bolts that hold the hinge to the inner wing. Undo the four bolts on the side where you have the gap just enough so the hinge is able to move up and down against...

Re: Automatic choke

Hi. The service manual describes this procedure. See photos. Service manual can be downloaded from this forum: S-Type Documents. Very helpful: thank you. I now have proper control of my automatic choke and it is set particularly well at the moment (!). When I got my car the otter switch ( temp sens...

Brilliant! Job done. Thank you.

Automatic choke

Whilst fiddling with idle speeds and generally meddling to try to solve some gearbox chatter I have managed to put the automatic choke onto a mixture so rich that the engine can barely cope without spluttering and stalling. At the back there is virtually black liquid from the exhaust until the choke...

Re: Ticking/tapping sound

Norman, Glyn Thank you. Some of these instructions have pushed me to my technical limit (!) but my conclusion, with some help, is that changing the idle speed has made no difference because the 'chatter' speeds up with engine revs (and sometimes gets left behind, meaning that it slows down slower th...

Re: Dashboard end caps

I think I would use something like ShoeGoo which has a lot of body and will accommodate the possibly uneven surface you are glueing to.
Thank you. I will go with this and see what happens.

Re: Dashboard end caps

Thank you. I'll just stick it back then! Any recommendations for glue or is Superglue the one?!

Dashboard end caps

The chrome cap at the end of my dashboard has fallen off. It looks as if it was perhaps not well stuck/built in the first place!

Does anyone have any top tips about how to put it back? Is it just glue? The two holes suggest some other way (which obviously hadn't been used!).

Re: Ticking/tapping sound

I notice the car has the full synchromesh gearbox and from memory when that gearbox design was fitted in other BMC /Leyland models the end facing of the reverse idler tapping the case was an issue. I THINK that problem is potentially possible on the Jaguar synchro version. I think this may be it. W...

Re: Ticking/tapping sound

I am told that it is the gears 'jangling around'.

The engine would have to come out to rectify the problem.....
