Re: Different Steering Types

Thank you very much Glyn and Rob.
Do you know if the steering column is the same all the way down to the connection to the steering box for the varamatic and the Burman?

Re: Different Steering Types

Rob

Yes, I've searched and read many posts on this and jaguarforums.com
I meant to ask whether the pump was the same.
Did I read that the variomatic uses a higher fluid pressure than the Burman?

Different Steering Types

My 1966 is fitted with power steering which I presume is the later type of the Burman steering Box. I have read that the Marles variomatic steering system was fitted from 1968. I was wondering if the later Marles system considered better than the earlier type and what if any are the advantages/disad...

Re: P1B6929BW 3.4S auto

That made me laugh out loud too.. we've all got ourselves on the wrong side of similar situations. Years ago I was replumbing my brothers girlfriends flat in Paris. We found and closed the stop cock on the mains water supply into the apartment off the rising main so that we could connect in a new co...

Re: P1B6929BW 3.4S auto

Just to update on the compression tests.. I drained the oil, got a new filter and started to replace the oil and filter with the intention of running the engine up to temp again to see if there was any change in the compression readings When I tried to refit the drain plug I found that there was a h...

Surface Protection

I am cleaning up some areas of rust for repair. It's going to be a while before any welding or painting takes place. What products have people used and would recommend to protect bare metal after stripping old paint and rust before welding repair work and painting is carried out? Are there different...

Re: P1B6929BW 3.4S auto

If you are only prepared to pay (or only have) 3.5k or less then you take a punt. I haven't seen many S types for this kind of money without issues If it's a really bad one then it's not the end of the world.. for me anyway. A disappointment yes, and a bit depressing Ok but that's all. I don't inten...

Wheel arch liners

Was the S type fitted with wheel arch liners at the front or rear?
Just wondering as mine has none. I can tap the underside of the wing if I put my hand under the wheel arch at the front
