Fuel Tank drain plug screens

I'm sure long ago in my 59 year ownership, the brass gauze screens attached to the fuel tank drain plugs partially perished. Never seemed to have any effect on the car's operation or any excess debris in the glass bowl "filter" in the engine bay. But still I thought I'd have a go at repair...

Re: 3.8s auto or manual

Don't know where ChrisC is located (he should update his profile) but I do not believe there were any post 1966 S Types imported to the USA so all are 1964 to 1966 versions and thus, if automatics, would have the DG250. Having said that the BW35 is not unheard of in the USA as Volvo, MGC, Datsun 510...

Re: Private Messages function

Well, Thanks, if that is the case folks need to make it a regular routine to check the Private Messages function.

Private Messages function

Is the Private Messages (bar at top of screen next to my name) working correctly? I have composed and sent three message and they remain showing in the OUT BOX list on the far left of the screen. Does this indicate they were sent or not? Shouldn't they show up in the SENT MESSAGES list?

Re: Horn no go

My car has no white wire going into the upper column at the parcel shelf level. The attached photo of the upper steering column parts should be of use. The connection is down at the bottom of the column near the floor to a "finger" contact that transfers power to the serrated ring and then...

Re: Tachometer failure

Tach fixed. The tip that cass3958 provided to remove the hood (bonnet) was a big help, also taking the battery and tray out also improves access although it is still awkward. But with the help of a fellow British car club member we were able to fit the spare generator and connect it up at which poin...

Re: Tachometer failure

OK, Thanks for that tip! I did get all four dash top mounting nuts off and removed the dash top. Tach accessibility is better but still not great. I sure hope I can get all those nuts and washers back in place later. It still may be necessary to remove the top of the column nacelle to get the tach o...

Tachometer failure

On a recent short local journey my usually reliable tachometer failed to read on the return trip. There are two devices in this system, the tack head and the signal generator at the back of the intake cam. I had a spare generator so spun that up with a drill and it would light a small 12V bulb, prov...
