My plastic bottle didn't have any buckle just the white mesh rubber, which at present is like a slack rugby jock strap & needs replacing during the restoration.

There is another topic. Mud Flaps.

I find if you spin the back wheels when you pull away then you are more likely to get those stone chips in the paint work. Naughty boy.

As for Sir Sterling, Provenance adds to the value of a car. Just look at Morses red Mk2 or was it a 240?

On my plastic bottle I had a plastic strap around the bottle holding it into the bracket which had a buckle fitting for tightening it up. Not sure if this was original.

Re Pebble Beach ~ Absolutely Rob. As I said early on here my car is no trailer queen. If I can't drive it I don't want it. Already have some minor stone chipping behind the back wheels ~ too bad. I'm not fitting mud flaps.

I saw Stirling Moss at Leguna Seca putting some scrapes on the 1955 Mille Miglia winning Benz 300SLR ~ 722. I said to my hosts "a bit of touch up required" to which they replied "no ~ it's more valuable now that Moss has scraped it." Went back in the Museum scrapes & all.

The Plastic bottle has a rubber band holding it to it's bracket ~ no place for sticker.

I think from memory and looking at my photos the water bottle holders are different from the plastic to the glass bottle. The glass bottle holder had a metal frame which would allow the decal to be stuck to it where as the plastic water bottle had a different frame which had the equivalent of a plastic buckle band around the top holding the bottle in place and no where to stick the decal. I am sure I have the old plastic bottle and frame in a box in the garage and will try to pull it out and take a photo.
In the meantime here are two photos of the old plastic bottle in situ when I bought the car and the new glass bottle in situ on assembly.

I agree with the standard but 99% of these cars are taken there in a covered trailer, never driven on the road, sit in a dehumidifier bubble and are only seen once a year by anyone other than their owner. In fact most of the cars are not even kept by their owner but by a company who stores them for the over rich customer and then presents them at a show like pebble beach on behalf of the owners. Museum pieces. A lot of the owners have not bought the cars because they are enthusiasts of that particular Marque but because the car is worth a lot and increasing in value every day. Especially if they win an award at Pebble Beach.
I still prefer to drive mine and I do have unfortunately have a couple of blemishes from doing so but that's how I like my car.

There were no labels on the plastic windscreen washer.
See Newsletter Vol 5, No 11 for details of both.
