I have the 15" riveted Moto Lita only because I could not close the door with the 17" wheel and my knee in the way. Plus, I cannot go any smaller since I do not have power steering. I guess I better not get any bigger. 6'4" and 290#.

Yes, maybe. I'm not an expert on these things.

One thing that does occur to me is that the dynamo-driven pumps got more powerful as time went on:
Early Mk2: 800 - 850psi
S-type: 1,000 psi

So, if instead of rebuilding the PAS pump that was original to your car, as you were planning, you were able to source an earlier Mk2 pump of lower pressure, you could achieve reduced assistance. Or ICS or similar may be able to put some sort of restrictor in to reduce the pressure of the 1,000 psi pumps.

Although my car wanders about a little at speed, I don't find the steering overly light, but it is a very personal thing. Mine is a 1,000 psi pump from a Mk 10.

This is something I have always wondered about for those that don't like things too light. The PS Pump includes a flow control/pressure release valve. Is it possible to adjust pump output pressure using or changing this?

If anyone wants a smaller wheel (13inch) I have a vintage Les Leston wood rim wheel - no boss up for grabs.

I've only ever seen one mounted in the flesh David and then on a Mk2. My original restorer has one in his collection unmounted.

That steering wheel is very rare. It is Part No. C.25198 “17” WOOD-RIM STEERING WHEEL” in the the list of ‘Options’ for the ‘S’-type in the Parts Manual.

It was first manufactured at the explicit request of Jaguar, by V. W. Derrington, for use to special order on Mk 2 cars and continued to be offered for the ‘S’-type.

C.25198 is a rarely seen option. Your Editor has seen only three, in over 30 years of attending Jaguar concours and car shows, and only on Mk 2s, never on an 'S’-type.

Yes I understand that view point Orlando but first, I do like the wood and a bit extra would not harm. Second my steering horn cover has snapped one end off which I could either glue back together, buy a replacement which is expensive and secondhand or plump for a wooden steering wheel which would cost about the same if I were to sell on my old steering wheel.
I also want a smaller 15 inch steering wheel as I find with the PAS the 17 inch wheel is just a tad too big and allows the car to wander at higher speeds. It was quite noticeable on my journey up to Coventry. With the PAS the steering is so light even at speed that a smaller wheel would just give a little more feel and feedback I think.
I like that steering wheel David but think I would go for one with the round holes in the spokes as everything else on the dash has round shapes.
